GRAPPLE TACKLE
April 8th 2008 12:44
The grapple tackle.
This outlawed tactic has reared it's ugly head again.
Craig Bellamy has been accused by former Storm forward Brett O'Farrell that he was coached to use the grapple tackle in the 2004 pre season by the Storm wrestling guru John Donehue.
O'Farrell also claims that trial matches were taped and grapple tackle's reviewed during the 2004 pre season.
According to Craig Bellamy that is codswollop.
Grapple tackle's were never coached or deliberately used. Or even taped and reviewed for that matter according to Bellamy.
The Storm are credited for introducing such tackle's as: Crusher, Ripper, Grapple and Chicken Wing.
It is interesting that the grapple tackle rears it's head now. As Adam Blair is the first ever player charged with using a chicken wing, on Bronco's hooker Michael Ennis.
O'Farrell's claims have suprised the Storm, who have always denied using the grapple tackle deliberately.
These types of tackle's are dangerous.
And I am not trying to offend anybody or make anyone look bad when I say this.
And I'm definitely not saying that any player or team deliberately use dangerous tackle's. No way!
So hopefully nobody who reads this article gets the wrong idea. Because I do not mean bad.
I am only saying this in the hope that people out there who read this article will understand that I am using common sense when I say this.
But I think all dangerous tackle's should be outlawed.
Why?
I end this article and question with another question.
How would you like it if it were you hurt in a dangerous tackle???
