April 10th 2008 12:46
World Cup time!!!
In the Rugby League, that is.
Woooooooooo Hoooooooooooo!!!
My eyeballs will be glued the the TV this year, believe me.
This years Worls Cup will be hosted by Australia. And all games will be played at various states and stadiums around the country.
Here are the Pools as follows:
Pool 1
AUSTRALIA
NEW ZEALAND
ENGLAND
PNG
Pool 2
FRANCE
FIJI
SCOTLAND
Pool 3
TONGA
IRELAND
SAMOA
PNG will make this years tournament interesting. They want to enter a team in the NRL!!!
Papaua New Guinea officials have started a campaign to have a team competing in the NRL no later than 2014.
Former Newcastle Knights winger Arnold Kerwanty, chairman of PNG selectors, thinks a PNG team should compete in the Queensland Cup, to prepare itself for the NRL, as well as gain acceptance from the NRL.
Australian prime minister Kevin Rudd recently gave PNG $250,000 for sport development, especially for Rugby League.
Meanwhile, in other World Cup news, England coach Tony Smith ahs fired the first shot in the war of words.
Australian born, Smith says that the NRL produces negative, predictable football.
“We make the ball do the work and are prepared to have a go”, said Smith about the style of the NRL.
“We may make a mistake or two but at least we give the ball air and try something different” he also said.
